Recognition Good Industrial Design
For 25 years, the award ‘Recognition Good Industrial Design’ is the quality mark for good industrial design in the Netherlands. Good Industrial Design (Goed Industrieel Ontwerp or GIO) started giving the ‘Recognitions’ in 1986. Since then over 900 products have been granted an award. After being part of the Dutch Design Awards from 2003 until 2007, the GIO’s are independent again. As of 2008 these awards for designer expertise as well as the assigning organization are again granted by Designlink. Over 100 submissions endured the critical judgment of the independent jury, which were, without exceptions, examples of excellent Dutch Industrial Design. Besides the ‘recognitions’ the jury grants six Special Awards to the most differentiating contributions with regard to aspects of respect, functionality, ergonomics, design, originality and materials. The GIO Recognition is an independent prize, funded by a chain of representative profession- and branche organizations, knowledge and educational institutes and intermediates.
