Melbourne, Australia – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) is proud to announce that Philips Design won the 2011 Australian International Design Award for the Philips SensoTouch 3D shaver. A total of three products including the FreeStreet street lighting system, the Fidelio Docking Speaker and the SensoTouch 3D shaver were Philips finalists for the Australian Design Awards. Earlier this year, all three of these products were amongst the Philips products successfully recognized with iF awards.
“It is great to receive the Australian International Design award for our SensoTouch 3D shaver. Over the past 70 years we’ve introduced numerous key design innovations in electric shaving. Our people-focused approach strongly contributed to the design of this, our most advanced shaver yet. Based on market- and consumer insights we were able to design a meaningfull solution for shaving - making users look their best and feel comfortable while shaving” says Ian Ellison, Creative Director at Philips Design.
About the SensoTouch 3D shaver:
The innovative electric shaver for both wet and dry combines design-led innovation with advanced technology to create an iconic and pioneering product. It has a seamless and ergonomically designed body that is comfortable to hold, allowing for a preferred shaving experience. The body has a hidden display that adds a touch of sensorial surprise and magic via an inviting light effect. The animation is initiated through motion sensing that reacts when touched, thus making visible the discreet On/Off switch.
According to Mr Brandon Gien, Managing Director of Good Design Australia, the international design promotion organization responsible for running the Australian International Design Awards, “Our esteemed judges spent a week assessing each entry against a common set of criteria focussing on innovation, form, function, quality, safety and sustainability. To be named a finalist in the Australian International Design Awards is a significant achievement. This year with our first ever finalists’ public exhibition, this recognition is more valuable than ever and rewards those companies championing the value of professional design.”
Philips’ design was last nominated for the Australian Awards in 2008, when both the Philips Aurea FlatTV and Arcitec electric shaver received awards. This year, Philips products are finalists in both the ‘consumer’ and the ‘architectural and interior products’ categories. The nominated products will be featured during the upcoming Finalists exhibition on July 21st in Melbourne.
