Philips previews Smart Baby Monitor at IFA 2013

September 5, 2013

Berlin, Germany – As part of Philips’ commitment to deliver meaningful innovation in personal health and well-being, today Philips AVENT introduces a new Smart Baby Monitor for today’s ‘digital’ parents. Connecting to and operated by smartphone with seamless switching between multiple connections including WiFi and 3G, the Philips AVENT Smart Baby Monitor is the first truly reliable connected baby monitor. Supporting parents in building a routine for their baby, the Monitor also connects to Philips’ revolutionary digital lighting for adjustable nursery ambiance to aid bedtime soothing, breastfeeding and waking. The Smart Baby Monitor is one of several digital innovations Philips is showcasing at IFA 2013.

Constant connection

The Philips AVENT Smart Baby Monitor allows parents to monitor their child using their smartphone and uses multiple means of connection to ensure real-time connectivity at all times, even when the internet is down. With an unlimited range* parents have greater peace of mind that their little one is safe and well, as well as extra flexibility whether they’re at home or on the go.

“Nothing matters more to new parents than feeling confident and reassured that they’re doing the best for their baby,” says Sinead Kwant, Category Leader, Philips Mother and Child Care. “By developing a baby monitor that combines a reliable connection with unlimited range*, Philips AVENT is offering parents a new level of support and reassurance in staying close to and caring for their child from day one and as they grow.”

Supporting baby’s development

Thanks to its advanced digital technology and reliable connectivity, the Philips AVENT Smart Baby Monitor enables easy connection to the Philips Hue digital lighting system helping parents to build routine for their baby. Tailored lighting settings such as a ‘sunset mode’ which eases baby to sleep by slowly reducing light in the room can be activated remotely via the smartphone app.

Understanding that it’s the tiny things that make the biggest difference, the Smart Baby Monitor features on-screen notifications and audio alerts to ensure parents can respond to even the smallest changes in baby’s activity. If baby is crying or fussing, then light can be adjusted together with playing a soothing lullaby. This calms the baby for sleep without entering the room and disturbing baby further. Milestone moments can even be shared with loved ones by capturing photos using the app.

“The possibilities that digital innovation presents when it comes to helping parents manage the sleep and waking up of their children are incredible,” explains Sinead Kwant. “With a long history of listening, learning and innovation, it’s our vision to use these new technologies and the information they deliver, to not only increase peace of mind for parents, but offer real health benefits for families.”

Building on its 122 year heritage of delivering meaningful innovations that have improved quality of life for millions, Philips is responding to the changing needs of consumers today. As their lives become ever more digitally-driven and connected, Philips’ new generation of digital innovations – including the Philips AVENT Smart Baby Monitor – are designed to meet consumers’ needs and expectations for greater connectivity, personalization, control and convenience. At this year’s IFA we are showcasing a new generation of digital concepts and products, spanning Male Grooming, Kitchen Appliances, Coffee, Mother and Child Care, and Air purification.

The Smart Baby Monitor will be first available in 2014.
