Mareike Klee

Philips Research Eindhoven, the Netherlands

Mareike Klee studied chemistry and received her PhD in the area of single crystal growth and X-ray diffraction analysis from the Technical University Darmstadt.

In 1984 she joined Philips Research Aachen and has been with Philips Research Eindhoven since 2004.

Mareike Klee has been the key person in building up the research on complex inorganic thin film materials, also comprising ferroelectric and piezoelectric thin films and their processing technologies. The materials and processes are applied to a variety of innovative devices and systems. In the area of semiconductors she developed a new class of devices with her colleagues, integrating high performance ferroelectric capacitors with active functions in one miniaturized module, which are now produced in high volume mass production.

As research fellow she co-operates over a wide area with the Philips sectors, focusing on materials, technologies and innovative systems for Philips Lighting and Philips Healthcare applications.

Her research resulted in 32 US patents being granted, 176 published patents, more than 60 publications in international journals, contributions to scientific books as well as invited papers and plenary sessions at international conferences. In 1996 – 1997 she was lecturer at the Technical University Aachen.

She was the first winner of the Eduard Pannenborg Award of Philips Research Aachen for outstanding research in the area of materials, devices and systems.
