Marketing - Cynthia Slater

I am Colombian American, but born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland. Given my background, I split my educational studies between the US and Europe. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a MBA from IESE Business School. With a true passion for travelling and learning new cultures, I have lived in several major cities including New York, London, Rome, Barcelona, Geneva and now Philips has brought me to Amsterdam.

When considering job opportunities upon graduating from business school, I was particularly attracted to Philips after learning about the Marketing Associate program in Global Marketing Management. The program is targeted to MBAs and provides a rotation through the all of the product divisions, working on strategic marketing projects.

After a professional recruiting experience, the opportunity to join the program became a reality for me and I started in October 2004. My first assignment culminated in a meeting with the Board of Management and the CMO board to discuss key strategic marketing issues at the firm. What I enjoy most about being a Marketing Associate is the opportunity to gain broad exposure to the global business and be part of an effort to make Philips a truly market-driven organization. Currently I am working on a marketing project in the Medical Systems division.

Philips is very dynamic and my division, Global Marketing Management, is a living example of diversity. On my floor I am able to practice my languages with the Peruvian, Spanish, French and Italian nationalities. If I spoke other languages I could practice many more. Luckily, everyone also speaks perfect English which makes it easy.
