About development engineering

Sense and Simplicity is our promise to our customers. Through it, we commit to developing advanced products that are easy to use and based on real end-user needs. This means we must continue to innovate.

Product innovations

Philips Consumer Lifestyle is a rich source of such innovation. More than 1,500 employees work at Philips in Drachten on the latest products and related research and development. There are lots of ideas for new products, but not all of them are commercially or technically feasible. That’s where pre-development comes in. To investigate the possibilities of turning the idea into a mass product, we first look at people’s needs and opportunities to improve their quality of life. The experts then translate consumer insights into actual applications or techniques.

High Impact Innovation Center

The High Impact Innovation Center undertakes worldwide research ranging from acoustics and metallurgy to material properties and chemical analysis. More than 100 specialists work on advanced technologies, and develop them into new functions or products. This way of working is in our blood, and has earned Philips more than 60,000 patents worldwide.

Our innovation sites

Once the developers have shown that an idea, function or product is feasible, it is turned into a working device. This product development takes place at one of our innovation sites for domestic appliances, shaving & beauty and water & air products.

In all parts of our organization, we value open innovation, creativity and solution-oriented thinking. It's only possible in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary and driven work environment. This fertile ground yields many leading edge products, and guides them into production.
