For Philips Consumer Lifestyle in Drachten we are looking for Pre-Development Engineers for the development of pioneering lifestyle consumer products. The successful candidate has experience in the field of physics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, materials science, polymer or physical chemistry or electronics.

Advanced Technology in Drachten provides technological bases for the development of new successful consumer products. Furthermore, two Lead Innovation Sites develop these into products in the following categories: Domestic Appliances and Shaving & Beauty. Over 600 engineers work continuously on new products in our dynamic, multidisciplinary and international Consumer Lifestyle department in Drachten. Product highlights are the Wake-up Light, Arcitec shaver, the One-touch Espresso Machine and water & air purification solutions.
Your job
As Pre-Development Engineer you will be responsible for the pre-development and realization of new functions, processes and/or innovative products. You work within a multidisciplinary team and your creative contribution to the product development process leads to concrete results within a short period of time. Your main tasks are:
- Developing new and optimizing existing technologies, functions and/or products
- Assessing the feasibility of applications
- Providing input in the creation of roadmaps for future product platforms
- Maintaining contact with internal and external partners
- Participating and/or leading as key competence resource in cross functional teams
Your profile
First of all, you are innovative, creative and analytical. In addition you are a team player and you have good communication skills. We would like to meet you if you also meet the following criteria:
- You have a Master or Bachelor Degree (with relevant working experience) in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, Polymer or Physical Chemistry or Electronics
- Proven experience in (pre-)development and realization of new functions, processes and/or products in a R&D environment, preferably in a multi-site development environment and high-volume consumer products markets
- Demonstrable areas of expertise – thermal management & fluid dynamics, mechanical (pre)development of products, application of materials, finishing technologies, plastic injection moulding, electronics (hardware/analog techniques) or metal forming technologies/machining of metals
- The ability to make decisions that benefit a project as well as the business
