Product Development Engineer

For Philips Consumer Lifestyle in Drachten we are looking for a Product Development Engineer for the development of pioneering lifestyle consumer products. The successful candidate has experience in the field of mechanical or electronic engineering, mechatronics or industrial design.

Advanced Technology in Drachten provides technological bases for the development of new successful consumer products. Furthermore, two Lead Innovation Sites develop these into products in the following categories: Domestic Appliances and Shaving & Beauty. Over 600 engineers work continuously on new products in our dynamic, multidisciplinary and international Consumer Lifestyle department in Drachten. Product highlights are the Wake-up Light, Arcitec shaver,  the One-touch Espresso Machine and water & purification solutions.

 

Your job

 

As Product Development Engineer you translate complex technical issues into uncomplicated consumer products. You work on product development from concept to final result in a multidisciplinary team. You always safeguard our trusted values regarding functionality, design and simplicity. In some of our projects you will be the technical counterpart of our suppliers in Eastern Europe or in the Far East. You are also responsible for:

  • Translating commercial, functional and design specifications into technical concepts
  • Developing and engineering appropriate mechanical or electrical/electronic designs
  • Safeguarding functionality, performance, quality, reliability and manufacturability of products
  • Releasing components, modules and products for mass production

 

Your profile

 

First of all, you are creative and analytical. In addition you are a team player and you have good communication skills. We would like to meet you if you also meet the following criteria:

  • You have a Master or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Industrial Design
  • Experience in the field of structured (consumer) product design and development. The Electronics Development Engineers have knowledge of hardware and/or analog electronics. Mechanical Development Engineers are familiar with state-of-the-art development techniques and CAD. You have knowledge of the design of mechanical constructions in plastic and/or metal and preferrably you are familiar with the manufacturability aspects (mould/tooling design) and analysis (strength, stiffness) and drive mechanisms
  • The ability to balance innovation and practical realization
  • Determination in decision making, flexibility and independance
