Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a major cause of death - especially in low- to middle income countries However, the basic Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Defibrillation (CPR/CPRD) skills needed to save lives aren’t nearly as widespread in underserved communities. Although the CPRD protocol is universal, how its content is structured can make a meaningful difference for effective training and learning. With this in mind, we created a design framework to allow easy visual and language adaptation of this life-saving procedure. Using context-specific visuals in a guided approach, the CPRD Training Kit helps users to recognize and remember signs of cardiac arrest and instructs the critical steps for effective resuscitation and defibrillation. The tool embraces inclusion and diversity in its design to support effective training and knowledge retention of the CPRD skills in various socio-cultural contexts - worldwide.

Cardiac arrest is reversible in most victims if it is treated within a few minutes. Unfortunately, few know how to administer first aid, especially in low- to middle income settings. The COVID-19 pandemic has also made it worse as not many know how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation/defibrillation safely. With our CPRD training kit, we can make a difference to make this life-saving skill more accessible to people in different parts of the world.
Patray Lui – Design Strategist
To contribute to the health and well-being of people you do not need to be a trained medical doctor. Any one of us can make a difference, even save lives, with effective training. This is the case for our CPRD (cardio pulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation) training kit, which empowers people to perform first aid techniques, irrespective of their level of general education, country of origin or language.
Simona Rocchi - Senior Design Director
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation is one of the techniques people may be afraid to perform, but by having adapted visuals which are simple everyone can learn easily and have a better retention.
