Meeting the high demand for Imaging Procedure Training - which traditionally requires in-person onsite training - has been further complicated during COVID-19. Philips Radiology Operations Command Center (ROCC) is a virtualized imaging solution that seamlessly connects radiology imaging experts at a central command center with technologists and onsite staff in locations for real-time, over-the-shoulder collaboration and support. It is the industry’s first multi-vendor, multimodality, radiology operations command center - meaning that it can integrate with existing technologies and systems outside Philips. It helps in breaking down communication barriers and helps maximize the value of top staff - leading to better patient outcomes, improved patient and staff satisfaction, and lower costs of care. ROCC is fantastic example of a multidisciplinary team collaborating to deliver agile solutions for real-life problems. A technologist could receive expert guidance in real time during a procedure, even if the technologist and expert are on separate floors, separate buildings, or even thousands of miles away. The less time experts spend traveling between the locations, the more time they can devote to doing value-added work focusing on other team members, patients, and workflow.

ROCC is more than just an application. It represents a new way of working in radiology, which we are cocreating together with our customers. In healthcare, the need for remote collaboration became even more pronounced during the pandemic. With ROCC, we are allowing radiology imaging teams to drive impact when and where it matters, so patients have better chances of getting timely diagnosis and treatment - wherever they live.
Luciano Arnold - Senior Experience Lead
ROCC is a result of a multidisciplinary team collaborating to deliver solutions for real problems. Working at ROCC also meant breaking barriers and challenges imposed by the pandemic - despite our geographical distance our team was able to work together to create prototypes to quickly get and apply feedback from our customers, resulting in a high- quality product in tune with experts, technologists and their patients' needs.
Natacha Pontes - UX Designer
As a UX designer, I was lucky to get involved in the ROCC project, an innovation-driven project at Philips. By figuring out a specific pain point in the existing clinical workflow and then teaming up with the creative people and utilizing the advanced technology, we gradually harvest a successful product that benefits patients and staff experience, generate better health outcomes with lower cost and higher sustainability.
Mandy Xun - UX Designer
As a user researcher, I was challenged by the conditions in these troubled times. All of the sudden, the interaction with users moved to a different level and required us to be creative and solve problems in different ways. Despite the limitations and disruptions posed by the situation generated by COVID-19, we were able to conduct remote usability testing to ensure that the product is usable and aligned with users’ expectations.
