Philips Chief Design Officer Sean Carney recently spoke at Fortune Brainstorm Design in Singapore about the role of design in the business of consumer and professional healthcare. Sean touched upon the transformation that Philips underwent to become a focused health technology company, bringing together its vast experience in both consumer solutions and healthcare innovations, and the role for Design there.
Sean explains approaches such as Design Thinking as part of the company’s strategy to develop human-centric, impactful innovations. He gives examples such as Philips connected Oral Care platform where gamification and fun incentives helped kids to improve their brushing habits, and insights and financial incentives are now helping adults. He also touched upon more future-gazing concepts such as augmenting surgeons through Augmented Reality or creating a soothing warm environment for premature born in newly designed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
