On July 9-10, 2019, the first-ever Silver Economy Forum, organized by the Finnish Government and the Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA), will take place in Helsinki, Finland, bringing together government officials, C-suite business leaders, innovators and policy-makers to prepare business for the decade of Healthy Aging in 2020 through 2030. The global discussion will focus on the challenges and opportunities for businesses and governments to meet the demands of a new world transformed by the rapidly changing aging demographics. The Forum is part of the official program of the Finland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As people are living longer, combined with the parallel trend of declining birthrates, the focus on managing the aging population means business and government leaders need to rethink how to manage the aging society. How can innovative technology better manage care for families, health providers and health systems, and improve quality of life for the aging population? Equally important, how can policies and new business strategies ensure new technology is able to truly support healthy aging? Innovative technology is deployed every day, but how do we move beyond pilots, proofs-of-concept and research projects, to scale effective technologies, and make digital health a reality and accessible in an aging society?
Philips believes consumer health needs are best addressed with integrated solutions, combining the power of data, AI and connected technology with easy access to healthcare and care services. The journey of aging needs to be disrupted – but not as other industries have been: how Uber has impacted transportation or Blue Apron has changed the food industry – because aging isn’t an episode or condition. Aging will be transformed by weaving those disruptions together where the experience is designed explicitly for seniors and their family caregivers. And more importantly, the data of each interaction needs to feed and predict the next appropriate introduction of a “care” service so that care circles are exposed to the right options for them at the right time.
During day one of the event, Ripley Martin, General Manager of Aging and Caregiving at Philips, will participate on a panel discussing “From Pilots to Scale: Technology and Policy Driving the New Wave of Health, Aging and Innovation.” Moderated by Dave Ryan, General Manager, Health & Life Sciences Business, at Intel Corporation, Ripley will be joined by thought leaders across health technology including Kalle Killar, Deputy Secretary General of E-services and Innovation Ministry of Social Affairs in Estonia; Mike Devoy, Chief Medical Officer of Bayer and Sara Härmälä, Director, Upgraded – Health Startup Association.
