Philips to showcase telehealth expertise at Population Health Colloquium

Estimated reading time: 4-6 minutes

Philips’ executives discuss the growing role of telehealth in successful population health strategies during COVID-19

On October 5th – 7th, Jan Kimpen, Chief Medical Officer at Philips, and Cindy Gaines, Chief Nursing Officer & Clinical Leader of Population Health at Philips, will participate in the 20th annual Population Health Colloquium to discuss the role of population health in addressing COVID-19’s healthcare challenges. The two clinical leaders will also address the evolution of telehealth as a pillar of population health and as a sustainable enabler of healthcare’s transformation.

Effective population health management means acknowledging that a person’s health is largely shaped by what occurs between periodic in-person visits. During the pandemic, telehealth helped to achieve this visibility and was transformed from a convenience into a necessary, recognized as a way to ensure quality, safe patient care in the face of crisis, while fostering a more holistic, proactive approach to managing one’s health. The Philips Future Health Index (FHI) 2020 report, which reveals new insights into younger doctors’ commitment to improving healthcare during COVID-19, captured feedback from 500 doctors under the age of 40 in five countries: the United States of America, China, Singapore, France and Germany. The survey results demonstrate how critical telehealth was during the pandemic, with 61% of respondents citing telehealth as among the top digital health technologies that would have most improved their experience during the pandemic. As we continue to manage the virus and look toward recovery, healthcare leaders across the globe are evaluating the role telehealth will play in their population health initiatives long-term, and how to ensure clinicians have the support needed to shift toward a virtual-first care delivery strategy.

On October 5th, Jan Kimpen will join David Nash, Founding Dean Emeritus at Jefferson College of Population Health, for a fireside chat titled, “Global Response to The Pandemic.” The two will explore the role telehealth played in the initial response to COVID-19 and the collaboration needed across sectors – healthcare professionals, federal agencies, vendors, insurers and more – to ensure telehealth’s momentum and intricate role in population health management continues successfully. Dr. Kimpen will discuss how with scalable, value-based population management networks and growing acceptance of connected care, providers will become more resilient and adaptable to potential future crises.

On October 7th, Cindy Gaines will join clinical leaders to participate in a panel discussion, “Transforming Care Delivery Through Virtual Health,” to share how telehealth can help improve ongoing management of chronic conditions and support preventative health strategies, with the goal of improving patient engagement and reducing readmissions:
