Snack healthily: if you want to cut out sugar

Many of us want to reduce the amount of sugar we consume. One prime source of extra sugar in our diets is the sweets we snack on. If cookies, cakes and candy are your preferred treats, the American Heart Association offers some good alternatives that should satisfy your cravings:

  • Thin slice of angel food cake or homemade banana-nut bread
  • Baked apple
  • Raisins, dates, figs and other unsweetened dried fruits
  • Frozen banana
  • Frozen grapes
  • Fresh fruit salad
