A sudden cardiac arrest can affect anyone of any age. It occurs when your heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood to the brain and other vital organs and is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). Most people who suffer a sudden cardiac arrest will lose consciousness and death occurs within minutes if the victim does not receive treatment*.
