Manage your allergen levels with Philips and Air Matters

Together the Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i and Air Matters app can help enhance your allergy management routine

Berlin, Germany – At this year’s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin, Germany, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) showcases new products and services that empower consumers to take an active role in managing their health and well-being to get the most out of life.

With 20% of the world’s population suffering from allergic diseases such as asthma and allergic rhinitis1 providing a solution for allergy sufferers is vital, as many are seeking relief from their symptoms. Now, Philips has collaborated with Air Matters for an app – that can be used with the Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i – which can manage and reduce exposure to the irritants and allergens that trigger their symptoms. This way users find peace of mind in knowing they are breathing cleaner indoor air at home.

Whilst we’re increasingly aware of the rising levels of outdoor air pollution, it may come as a surprise that indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted2. Poor quality indoor air is known to aggravate the symptoms of allergic diseases. For those that suffer from allergies, the impact on their day to day lives is significant. 87% of people say their allergic rhinitis affects their sleep, and a worrying 92% of people admit their allergy symptoms affect their work, school or daily routine3

While allergy sufferers cannot control the quality of outdoor air, they can act at home. Monitoring in real time, the app – which can be used around the world – shows what the current outdoor allergen levels are. It measures pollutants and different kinds of pollen; and it has historical tracking data to help users correlate their symptoms with peaks in allergen levels. The app allows users to regulate the settings and the speed of their air purifier, and to receive information on the filter status. Used in conjunction with the Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i, allergy sufferers can connect to cleaner indoor air.

Simple, everyday activities like vacuuming, making the bed in the morning and patting down cushions can cause dust and allergens to rise up and move around the home. The Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i removes 99.97% of airborne allergens including pollen, house dust mite and pet dander, and to help decrease the impact of these moments it includes AeraSense, a particle sensor that detects even the slightest change in the air and ensures the purifier’s settings are adjusted to reduce the threat of airborne allergens. It also gives real time feedback thanks to its Indoor Allergen Index, which on a scale of 1 – 12 indicates how high or low the allergen risk is in the home.

To support allergy sufferers further, the Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i has a special auto-setting called Allergen Mode. Using a unique algorithm, this always-alert programme detects and reacts to potential allergen risks by boosting the purifier’s airflow. It immediately reduces exposure to allergens and keeps them to a minimum. This purifier, designed with a multi-stage active filtration system captures up to 99.97% of particles, even those as small as 0.3 microns – the size of most common airborne allergens, particles, bacteria and viruses.

The Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i also has a General Mode and a strong Bacteria and Virus Mode. With five manual modes users can choose their own settings – from the extra-quiet ‘Sleep’ setting to the extra-powerful ‘Turbo Speed’ mode. So they can pick their required level of purification. The Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i has been designed for medium to large rooms (up to 26 square meters) such as a living room.

As well as allergens the Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i is also proven to reduce odors, VOCs and even certain bacteria. Its pre-filter and True HEPA filter remove particles, whilst its Active Carbon filter reduces gases and odors.

Sjoerd Drost, Business Leader Air, Domestic Appliances said, “At Philips our aim is to help everyone improve the quality of the air they breathe indoors especially those suffering from allergies. The Philips Air Purifier Series 2000i and the Air Matters app can help allergy sufferers to manage their exposure to allergy triggers better and enabling them to breathe easier.”
