Berlin, Germany – At this year’s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin, Germany, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) and Philips Avent are presenting new innovations that empower consumers to take an active role in managing their health and well-being to get the most out of life. Philips Avent, is actively supporting parents through their journey with the uGrow interactive app, the first medical baby app of its kind with connected products giving personal advice that matters to support baby’s healthy development.
This year uGrow launches its first collection of pregnancy and starter kit expert articles, created together with healthcare professionals, to provide moms-to-be with information and advice. uGrow also provides integrated weight and length graphs, allowing parents to check their baby’s weight and length against WHO (World Health Organization) standard charts, providing reassurance for new parents that their little one is on track for healthy development.
In July 2017, Philips acquired Health & Parenting Ltd, a leading London-based developer of healthcare and family-related mobile applications for expectant and new parents. Health & Parenting’s apps will enhance Philips’ uGrow digital parenting platform and strengthen Philips’ offering in pregnancy and parenting.
Health & Parenting creates easy-to-use and helpful apps to guide expecting parents through pregnancy and into parenthood. Its leading product is the Pregnancy+ app, which is one of the world’s most downloaded pregnancy apps with approximately 12 million downloads from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
“The first 1,000 days of a baby’s life are critical to set the stage for their future health and we also know that more and more parents are turning to technology for support,” said Egbert van Acht, Business Leader, Health & Wellness at Philips. “We understand how overwhelming becoming a parent can be, and as Philips Avent we believe it’s important for parents to start their journey with a guide that provides them the right information at the right time during those early weeks and months. The acquisition of Health & Parenting fits perfectly in our digital strategy to help expectant and new parents understand and support their baby’s healthy development, through a series of connected digital products with the uGrow application at the core.”
With an interactive timeline at its heart, uGrow starts parents off on a new journey to collecting and remembering special moments and developmental milestones. uGrow syncs wirelessly via Bluetooth® with two smart devices, the Philips Avent smart baby monitor and Philips Avent smart ear thermometer, and provides parents with personalized advice, such as featured articles, based on insight from a panel of healthcare professionals. In 2018, uGrow will work with new Philips’ devices including the Philips Avent Smart Feeding Kit that works together with the Philips Avent Natural bottle to monitor time, volume and duration of baby’s feeds; and in the future with the addition of the Philips Connected Air Purifier and Philips Hue lighting system. uGrow will soon be easier to use with the addition of Amazon Echo voice activation.
The uGrow app is free to download from the Apple and Google Play stores in a total of thirteen countries globally including North America, Europe and Asia. In Europe, the recommended retail price for the Philips Avent Smart baby monitor is available for €219.99 and the Philips Avent Smart ear thermometer for €49.99.
