Helping to create a community of compassionate care in Seattle

Philips and The Philips Foundation helped the Seattle/King County Clinic once again in producing a giant free health clinic. The four-day volunteer-driven clinic provided a full range of free dental, vision and medical care to underserved and vulnerable populations in the region.

Even after full implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), there are as 29 million people in the US who are still without access to health insurance. Free and Charitable Clinics remain an important part of the safety-net and continue to provide care to those who need it most.

In 2014, the Seattle/King County Clinic provided almost $2.4 million in free dental, vision and medical care to 3,400 individuals. 40% of patients were unemployed and 75% had incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. To support this huge community endeavor, over 50 Philips volunteers served over 600+ hours at the clinic, Philips provided its healthcare expertise by loaning 4 Ultrasound systems, 2 Diagnostic X-ray systems, and 2 EKGs and Philips employees donated 264 pairs of new socks.

In 2015, Philips helped the Seattle/King County Clinic once again in producing a giant free health clinic that served 4,010 patients. 98 unique Philips volunteers served at the clinic for 130 volunteer shifts. This represents a 96% increase in Philips volunteers over 2014! Also, The Philips Foundation provided a significant cash contribution to the SKC Clinic to assist with the cost of volunteer meals, dental chairs, sign-age, supplies and video production for education and future scalability. Philips Oral Health Care donated 2,500 Sonicare electric toothbrushes which were handed out to patients at the clinic, at no cost. These contributions supplemented the medical equipment loan of 2 Ultrasound systems, 2 Diagnostic X-ray systems, and EKGs.

The Philips contribution addresses healthcare needs of under-served, vulnerable population in the region by providing them access to world-class imaging, oral health and monitoring solutions at no cost.
