Meet the Director
- Katy Hartley, the Philips Foundation
We caught up with Katy to find out more about her personal vision for the Foundation:
The Philips Foundation is innovative and entrepreneurial so it fits that my background is in start ups… “Taking ideas from a piece of paper and making them become reality. That’s more the skills side – but throughout my working life I have had experience as an industry analyst, in marketing, communications, brand, public affairs."
It’s wonderful to see how the skills of people within an organization can be applied to improve the lives of those most in need… “The Philips Foundation is uncovering so many amazing skills from within a large Philips universe and applying them through humanitarian partners to improve the lives of those most in need. Discovering, making and putting together all the connections is the fascinating part, and if we do it well I believe we can really make a difference on a large scale.”
An average week might include… "Spending time in Geneva with the humanitarian sector and academia discussing the role of innovation. The inaugural Board meeting in Amsterdam was an important step and a very important meeting. Working on the Foundation response to Ebola as part of the disaster relief pillar."
I’m passionate that the Philips Foundation becomes a leader in the new trend emerging of corporations and the humanitarian sector starting to work together for social good… "Businesses and the humanitarian sector have so many complimentary skills that each have. Together we can create and drive through new models of partnership. And yet, this is just a means to an end – real, big picture change. If we work together in a more innovative and efficient way, we really can start to change things for communities in need."
