Our story

The Philips foundation makes an impact where it really matters

Using innovation for lasting change

Together with our partners, we create tools and run projects - focusing on three main areas - to improve the lives of the world’s most disadvantaged peoples and communities.

We believe that through innovation and collaboration we can solve some of the world’s toughest challenges

How do we do it?

Together with our partners, we create tools and run projects - focusing on three main areas - to improve the lives of the world’s most disadvantaged people and communities.

We focus on three main areas

making the best use of our people, products and expertise

Disaster Relief

We know that when a disaster occurs, acting fast and intelligently is vital. We provide medical and lighting equipment, devise on the ground solutions as well as funds (in the event of a large scale disaster) to regions affected as quickly as possible. Since 2015 we have donated EUR 377,000 to respond to disasters around the world raised by Philips employees matched by The Philips Foundation.

Community development

We identify projects where Royal Philips’ expertise and innovations can make a real difference in local communities. Together with partners, we use the Royal Philips technology, service and delivery innovation model and apply it solely for the facilitation of social change. Past innovations include developing ultrasound machines for rural healthcare settings, clean cook stoves, mobile telehealth, solar lighting and pneumonia and malnutrition testing. And, of course, we supply Royal Philips experts and volunteers to help share and build knowledge.

Social entrepreneurship

We’re passionate about giving people the tools to build a healthier, better future for themselves. We work to provide grants, training and products that drive social innovation and enable entrepreneurship. A recent example includes social innovation in Rwanda that created an innovative business model around woodstoves for cooking and sale-able pellets for fuel.

Our partnerships

We have partnered with two of the world’s most respected humanitarian organizations - The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and UNICEF - to ensure our work reaches those most in need. We also collaborate with experts, visionaries and innovators who share our passion for change.

Our projects

We identify projects and programs that make lasting change a reality. Read more about some of our most inspiring projects here as well as in our news updates.
