Healthdot is a wearable biosensor for patients who are discharged from hospital. Healthdot enables healthcare professionals to still look after patients while in the comfort of their home. The healthcare landscape is changing rapidly. Increased complexity, patient volume, and pressure on devices and system integration demands new approaches and thinking in the delivery of high quality care to your patients. Healthdot is a concept designed by Philips to help address these trends. Healthdot is a wearable biosensor for patients who are discharged from hospital. Healthdot enables healthcare professionals to still look after patients while in the comfort of their home. During the design process, interviews with elderly patients revealed that many struggle with home measuring devices that require bluetooth pairing, charging, pin codes, instructions, etc. Based on these interviews the connectivity was radically changed to eliminate phone or bridge connections, and the device was redesigned to automatically send data directly to the cloud.
I am a great believer in Ecosystem Thinking. Particularly, in the medical world, a product shouldn’t be designed without thinking about the ecosystem of people, other medical devices, daily living objects, and the physical environment around the medical device you are creating. This also means conducting usability evaluations in a realistic context. Include as many touchpoints across projects in a workflow with a realistic clinical case that reflects how those devices will work together in the real world. This allows you to see synergies as well as improvement points to truly create a solution that fits into the ecosystem that is real life.”
