Amsterdam, The Netherlands - AI-based solutions have great potential to improve patient outcomes and the efficiency of care delivery. The most effective solutions are based on a deep understanding of clinical needs and developed in close collaboration with the care providers who will use them. At Philips we combine AI and other technologies with knowledge of the clinical and operational context in which they are used – a people-centered approach that we call ‘adaptive intelligence’. Our goal is to develop integrated solutions for seamless care that adapt to the needs of healthcare providers and that are embedded into their workflows. At the 2018 Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting (RSNA), taking place November 25-30 in Chicago, U.S, Philips is showcasing its latest innovations powered by adaptive intelligence. To support the adoption of AI in key healthcare domains, Philips has developed an AI platform for healthcare – Philips HealthSuite Insights – which delivers healthcare-specific tools and technologies to address the full process of building, maintaining, deploying and scaling AI solutions. The tools and technologies available through HealthSuite Insights already enable machine learning and deep learning applications in diagnostic imaging, telehealth, oncology and genomics.
Philips is further integrating HealthSuite Insights into its enterprise imaging platform with the launch of IntelliSpace Discovery 3.0*, a comprehensive, open platform that offers radiologists comprehensive data analytics capabilities for clinical and translational research in radiology. IntelliSpace Discovery is already a proven research platform, supporting more than 50 hospitals and academic institutions worldwide for the development of radiology applications for rendering, segmentation, and quantification. For example, it is being used for clinical validation and subsequent deployment into the radiology workflow on the Philips IntelliSpace Portal [1]. With the introduction of IntelliSpace Discovery 3.0 the platform now provides applications and tools for radiologists to aggregate, normalize and anonymize data, which can be visualized and annotated to ‘train’ and validate deep learning algorithms. They can then easily deploy these algorithms as plug-in apps into the research workflow to analyze new datasets and help facilitate clinical research in radiology, oncology, neurology and cardiology, from the workbench to the patient’s bedside.
Available as part of IntelliSpace Enterprise Edition for Radiology, Philips Illumeo is an imaging and informatics technology with adaptive intelligence, combining contextual awareness capabilities with advanced data analytics to augment the work of the radiologist. By providing a single view of the most relevant case-related information from various sources, Illumeo optimizes workflow and care consistency. With speed of exam a critical factor in MR, Philips Compressed SENSE is an advanced acceleration application that uses adaptive intelligence reduces exam times by up to 50% [2]. It is available on our Ingenia Elition 3.0T and Ambition X 1.5T MR systems. Also for MR, AI-driven SmartExam analytics for automatic planning, scanning and processing of exams helps to improve the entire MR workflow, from image acquisition to reading preference. IntelliSpace Portal is Philips’ comprehensive, advanced data integration, visualization, and analysis platform to enhance diagnostic confidence. The platform combines clinical data from various modalities across the health system using artificial intelligence to enhance clinical workflows. The latest iteration includes IntelliSpace Portal 10, which features machine learning capabilities to automatically learn from prior application usage to predict the series and data type on which pre-processing should be applied.
Part of Philips’ integrated breast ultrasound solution, AI for breast enhances reproducibility and streamlines workflow while preserving image quality during breast exams. The automation and intelligence provides visual mapping and annotation of screened anatomy, with minimal user interaction, to give clinicians confidence while documenting full coverage of the breast during the acquisition phase. Available with the Philips EPIQ and Affiniti ultrasound systems, AI for breast is part of all-in-one solution brings together high-quality imaging with complementary clinical tools tailored for breast screenings.
Philips VitalEye is a unique approach to detecting patient physiology and breathing movement during MR scans, using technology and algorithms to intelligently extract signs of breathing without any interaction from the operator. VitalEye processes over two hundred body locations in parallel to intelligently extract signs of breathing – allowing routine exam set-up time to occur in less than a minute, even for less experienced operators [3]. In radiotherapy, care teams are continuously seeking ways to reduce uncertainty during the radiation treatment planning process and more confidently and efficiently deliver targeted, personalized therapy. Philips RTdrive MR Prostate applies adaptive intelligence to automate the treatment planning process from MR-only simulation, to MR-based Auto-Contouring and treatment planning. RTdrive condenses the planning process that can take hours or even days, down to just 25 minutes [4], significantly shortening the time patients need to wait between planning and treatment.
Philips PerformanceBridge leverages adaptive intelligence to optimize operational departmental performance, bringing together data, people and services to bridge the gap between data and decision making. Designed as a secure, cloud-based or on-premise software solution, PerformanceBridge gives healthcare professionals access to near real-time data on departmental performance through an easy-to-use interactive dashboard. Vendor agnostic, PerformanceBridge unifies information across different imaging modalities and existing information systems. * Philips IntelliSpace Discovery is for Research use only and cannot be used for patient diagnosis or treatment selection. [1] Tools/applications deployed to ISP are compliant with medical device regulations. [2] Using Compressed SENSE technology and compared to Philips exams without Compressed SENSE. [3] Based on in-house testing. [4] Tested in a non-clinical environment with single Pinnacle user and a 5-beam IMRT plan. Excluding time for optional manual adjustments.
