Description

During World War I, Dutch physicians made an urgent request to Philips (Physics Laboratory) to repair their X-ray tubes. Philips had the necessary expertise in glass and vacuum technology and complied with the request. In 1918, Philips Physics Laboratory began the small-scale manufacture of X-ray tubes.
