New capabilities for Philips Zenition mobile C-arm platform enhance workflow in the operating room

Estimated reading time: 2-4 minutes

Following its launch in 2019, Philips today announced two major innovations on its Zenition mobile C-arm platform that will be on show at LINC 2020 (Leipzig, Germany, 28-31 January). With the new Table Side User Interface, clinician can operate the C-arm inside the sterile field, reducing the communication burden with the operator and making it more intuitive to control the system. In addition, the Zenition platform has been extended to integrate intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) for peripheral vascular procedures, streamlining the operating room (OR) and improving workflow. These two new innovations demonstrate Philips’ commitment to enhance the clinical capabilities of the platform over time.

The scope and complexity of surgical interventions – especially in the rapidly growing area of image-guided minimally invasive surgery – continues to increase, as does the number of patients requiring treatment. Mobile C-arms are X-ray systems that are brought into the OR to provide live image guidance during a wide range of surgeries including orthopedic, trauma and vascular procedures. The Zenition mobile C-arm platform brings together innovations in image capture, image processing, ease-of-use and versatility pioneered on Philips’ highly successful Azurion platform

By integrating the Table Side User Interface with the Zenition system directly at the table, the clinician can control the system through its tablet-like user interface. With a large 12.1” display the Table Side User Interface can be positioned at a range of angles and can also serve as a viewing monitor on the patient table.

Used in combination with the Zenition, IVUS is a catheter-based imaging technology that allows physicians to visualize blood vessels from the inside out, aiding the treatment of peripheral vascular and coronary patients. By evaluating vascular morphology in blood vessels and providing cross-sectional imaging of these vessels, IVUS is used  to appropriately size stents and confirm the completeness of treatment. The imaging output from IVUS, including measurement and replay features, can now be viewed and controlled from the Zenition.

The Philips Zenition platform is designed for the future, allowing for longer clinical relevance of the systems. With two different detector and image intensifier options and the ability to subscribe to Philips’ Technology Maximizer program, Zenition offers users the latest software and hardware technology releases for a fraction of the cost of purchasing them individually.

The Philips Zenition C-arm is CE marked and commercially available in the U.S. The new innovations will be available in Q2 2020, with the Table Side User Interface available on the Zenition 70 and IVUS integration available across the Zenition portfolio.
