Becoming a mom is special. But, even with family and friends helping you during your pregnancy journey, it can sometimes be a lonely or uncertain experience, especially for first-time parents[1].

When they become pregnant, many moms face constant change and questions. This can lead to feelings of uncertainty and even stress. In fact, research shows that 44% of moms worry about their happiness and well-being after giving birth, while 39% feel significantly more anxious[2].

In moments like these, moms need even more than the facts – reassurance matters.

Why connection matters as much as information

Pregnancy changes your life overnight. It brings excitement and joy, but it also brings a lot of questions and a need for reassurance and personal support. Alongside medical care and family care, many moms look for something just as important: a trusted community that understands what they are experiencing in real time to share real-life, comparable experiences and feel understood. Studies show that online forums and support groups for pregnant women can actively benefit prenatal and even postnatal well-being, helping moms exchange knowledge and support one another[3].

This need for connection is what inspired the latest update to Pregnancy+, the world’s leading pregnancy app.

Pregnancy+ already supports millions of moms each month with expert-led guidance, personalized content, and photo-real interactive 3D fetal models that help explain each stage of a baby’s development. But there was an opportunity to go further, building on that foundation by creating a “Community” space for connection within the app itself.

Introducing the Pregnancy+ Community

To respond to this need for connection, the Pregnancy+ team introduced Community – a new, fully integrated space within the app designed to bring expecting parents together[4] through curated groups, chats and discussion threads, promoting a warm environment to learn, feel heard and share on relevant topics.

Starting off – making Pregnancy+ personal with avatars and nicknames

From the moment moms join the Pregnancy+ Community, the experience is designed to feel personal and safe. Users are invited to create a unique nickname and choose a heart-based avatar that reflects their personality.

This approach encourages self-expression while also supporting identity security. The heart-shaped designs emphasize warmth, kindness, and care, helping set the tone for a positive, welcoming environment where moms can feel comfortable engaging with others.

Rather than feeling like a public forum, the Community is intended to feel like a shared space shaped by empathy and understanding.

Groups, chats and threads specific to the Pregnancy+ user

Community spaces are built around curated groups, chats, and discussion threads that reflect different stages and experiences of pregnancy. These include due-date groups, first-time moms, age-specific groups, and topic-based conversations such as labor or everyday pregnancy questions.

These groups are designed to grow with moms over time; due-date groups will remain open after birth so conversations can continue beyond pregnancy.

Within these spaces, moms can talk openly – whether about prenatal or postnatal care, how they’re feeling that day, food cravings, or questions they may hesitate to ask elsewhere. These are conversations created by moms, for moms.

Main Chat
Thread Multiple Reply

In each thread and group chat, the experience is built around mutual support, with message reactions that are friendly and empathetic in design.

However, if any message is flagged as spam, harmful or inappropriate, users can report them. These reports are assessed by moderators around the world, taking the necessary action; in parallel, Philips moderators monitor chats to identify and act on anything inappropriate.

“At Philips, we understand that expectant mums turn to Pregnancy+ for expert-led guidance and support across every stage of their journey. But they also want to hear from others like them, to get fast answers, share experiences, and feel reassured. That is what Community offers. It’s a trusted space within the app where they can connect with each other alongside the professional information and experience they already rely on,” says Harrison Baker, Product Leader, Pregnancy+.

Pregnant women need support groups

From pregnancy through birth and into the postpartum period, many moms carry a growing sense of responsibility, which can overwhelm, especially if it’s the first time.

By creating a space where moms can connect through shared experiences, Pregnancy+ Community helps reinforce a simple but powerful message: you’re not alone. Through personalized groups and everyday conversations, moms can support one another, exchange encouragement, and share the care, alongside the trusted information they already depend on.
