Greening the grid: powering Philips with clean energy
Philips has been a pioneer in renewable energy sourcing: all our sites are powered by 100% renewable electricity, and we were the first health technology company to have its entire value-chain CO₂e emissions reduction targets, including scopes 1 to 3, approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Much of the renewable electricity Philips sources is from projects we helped create, such as the Los Mirasoles Wind Farm in the US, and the Krammer and Bouwdokken wind farms in the Netherlands.
For example, through our landmark partnership with Heineken, Nouryon and Signify, Philips is using clean energy from the Mutkalampi wind farm in Finland to power its operations for a decade. Additionally, this project generates enough green electricity to power 215,000 homes. In Italy, Philips is part of an innovative agrivoltaic project, in partnership with Heineken.
In China, a five-year agreement with a pioneering fishery-solar plant in Jiangsu enables our Suzhou facility to operate entirely on green electricity. In North America, Philips has partnered with the US Environmental Protection Agency since 2016 as part of the Green Power Partnership, further accelerating the transition to green electricity.
This approach supports the wider energy transition in markets where healthcare systems, businesses, and communities all depend on reliable, low-carbon power.
As we continue to electrify our operations, phase out fossil fuels, and work with partners across the value chain, renewable energy remains a cornerstone of our decarbonization strategy. By sharing lessons learned and scaling successful approaches, we further contribute to accelerating the global transition to sustainable energy.
