Across our operations and logistics, we are phasing out fossil fuels, increasing the use of renewable energy, reducing waste, and restoring biodiversity on our manufacturing sites.
We’ve been driving the sustainable and equitable transition of healthcare for many years, with the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. That’s five years ahead of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s recommendation to limit global warming to 1.5 °C.
Our decarbonization efforts reflect our commitment to embedding responsible and sustainable practices across the value chain. Philips has been carbon neutral in its global operations since 2020 – a commitment we continue to uphold as we scale our ambition.
We’re systematically reducing reliance on fossil fuels across all Philips sites – including manufacturing, offices, warehouses, R&D facilities, logistics and business travel. Key actions include:
• Electrifying heating, ventilation and cooling systems. • Transitioning leased fleets to electric and hybrid vehicles. • Optimizing our transportation network, and reducing air travel and air freight in favor of lower-carbon options, such as rail or ocean transport.
Across our locations, we continue to embed sustainable and circular practices, including circular waste streams, responsible end-of-use material management, nature restoration and regional sourcing. These efforts are part of our broader plan to improve operational efficiency improvements across buildings, facilities and logistics, while strengthening supply chain resilience.
Beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions, materials and waste, our operational activities include restoring biodiversity on our manufacturing sites and reducing water withdrawal in water-stressed areas.
We also power all of our sites with 100% renewable energy and help bring new clean energy to the grid through long-term partnerships and global projects.
As part of our ambition to reducing environmental impact across our operations, we work closely with suppliers and customers to align efforts. We help them to decarbonize their operations, services and ways of working, ultimately to reduce environmental impact throughout the healthcare value chain.
We are also engaging many of our largest first-tier manufacturing and transportation suppliers to report their climate performance and strategies through the Carbon Disclosure Project Supply Chain program.
Our structured approach to sustainable operations goes beyond our facilities – shaping how we innovate, source and collaborate. By embedding sustainability into every aspect of how we work, we’re helping make sustainable healthcare delivery a reality for more people.
