Philips launches flagship Sonicare DiamondClean Smart connected toothbrush

Most advanced Philips Sonicare toothbrush ever enhances Philips’ complete oral care platform, offering data driven insights to transform oral healthcare

Amsterdam, Netherlands: Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) today announced the global launch of its latest innovation in oral health care, the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart, a complete care solution for a healthier mouth. The DiamondClean Smart is Philips’ most innovative and intelligent toothbrush, giving people the results and confidence of complete care every time they brush.

The new DiamondClean Smart connected toothbrush brings together the latest in Philips Sonicare innovation, giving users exceptional results with new high-performance brush heads with microchip recognition technology, personalized coaching and guidance from smart sensor technology, and an intuitive adaptive brushing experience. As a complete oral care solution, this latest electric toothbrush in the Sonicare range covers all oral care needs from plaque removal, gum health, and tongue care to tooth whitening.

Smart sensor technology

Globally, consumers want instant data-driven insights into their personal health. And today, new connected technologies can tackle oral care issues in a highly relevant way by bringing consumers closer to their dentist; a first step to preventing oral disease at home and improving good oral care. The DiamondClean Smart helps users track their daily brushing technique to tackle the ongoing challenge of not knowing how well they are doing in-between check-ups with their dentist. Through smart sensor technology, users can feel confident that they are taking excellent care of their mouth, teeth, and gums1, achieving 100 percent coverage, 100 percent of the time2. According to 90 percent of consumers surveyed, they feel more engaged with their oral care when using the DiamondClean Smart. They can also choose to share their brushing information with their dentist.

“The importance of oral healthcare still remains an afterthought in most people’s daily routines. Yet research shows that 90 percent3 of the global population is expected to experience oral disease during the course of their lives,” said Egbert van Acht, Business Leader Health & Wellness at Philips. “We have built a new platform for oral care that empowers consumers and dental professionals with data and guidance to proactively manage and improve people’s oral health. The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart is our latest innovation supporting our ambition to create the future of oral healthcare.”

Research and clinical evidence

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart helps users to achieve multiple oral health goals, from plaque removal and gum health to stain removal and fresh breath, with new brush heads backed by research and clinical evidence. Philips is committed to partnering with dental professionals to develop new products that are based on clinical evidence, reinforcing our brand promise of the safety and efficacy of our products. Published in the US, papers in a Special Issue of The Journal of Clinical Dentistry® (Vol XXVIII, No.1, Spec Iss A), titled ‘Philips Sonicare: An Evidence-based Approach to Daily Plaque Control and Gingival Health’, provide insights into the performance of Philips’ oral care products, highlighting scientific research and clinical evidence on the effectiveness of Sonicare plaque removal and gum health.

Availability

The DiamondClean Smart connected toothbrush is available in China from May and will be in North America and Europe from August, followed by additional markets in 2017.  The Philips Sonicare app is free to download and available on iOS and Android devices.
